Rahab’s Redemption

Rahab's Redemption

Rahab’s Redemption (RaRe) is our outreach to victims of prostitution in Lagos, Nigeria.

Lagos being the commercial capital of Nigeria, attracts a large number of unsuspecting young ladies looking for the proverbial golden fleece who are then lured into prostitution.

Our ministry reaches out to these women and sometimes men who have been trapped in the commercial sex industry and want a way out. We try to offer practical help through the Gospel by reaching individuals with hope and directing them to healing.

RaRe uses a four pronged approach in our outreach to victims of prostitution and human trafficking.

What We Do

Reaching

We hold regular outreaches to the streets, brothels, red light districts, wherever they are to share the Gospel. We distribute gifts, Bibles, food items and toiletries which are provided by our various partners and sponsors. These gifts do not just give succour to the recipients but are an amazing opportunity to see heaven on earth as the volunteers are always as blessed as those to whom we share the message of God’s love.

Rehabilitation

Through our network with doctors, counselors, churches and other related practitioners we walk alongside those wanting to exit the commercial sex industry.

Restoring

Most of those who have been reached through Rahab’s Redemption’s outreaches, who have been stripped of their self-worth and dignity are restored through discipleship and one on one mentoring. We connect each woman on her journey of restoration to a group of mentors who will help her see herself as GOD sees her, beautiful, loved and valued.

Reintegrating

The women are eventually reintegrated into society as they are taught skills on how to live, thrive and flourish. In turn it is anticipated that each person can turn around and become a role model and a positive influence to others wanting to come out and a testimony of the Power of God’s Love that is shed abroad in all our hearts.

Snow House

The objectives of HOUSE OF SNOW’s residential programs are to allow the women to experience, often for the first time in their lives, a safe place to live and the support needed to improve their physical and emotional well-being so that they can return to mainstream society as healthy, self-supporting adult women with a renewed sense of dignity and belief in themselves.

Snow House will run programs to equip women with necessary life and occupational skills to enable them find their way back into society with ease. This will be reinforced by a Christian program that guides each person to wholeness and wellness by demonstrating their worth.

The key to this part of the program and to residency at Snow House is the willingness and commitment of each individual. Each person must want to come to Snow House for guidance and help.

A Volunteer's Perspective

My First time at Empire, Moshalashi, Lagos was on New Year’s Eve. We had quite literally stumbled there after our attempt to evangelize at another location was frustrated by the perennial and notorious Lagos traffic popularly known as go slow. We had decided to go to Yaba and on our way there, we passed through Empire and on the spur decided to stop at Empire.

Empire is a notorious red light district known for prostitution, drugs and gambling from the early 70’s till date. We parked and got down from the bus before we had time to think about the wisdom or otherwise of our decision. The sight of a group of women of varied ages alighting from a bus in uniform tees shirts and jeans in the middle of the street late afternoon must have drawn the attention of the patrons as we were immediately accosted by 2 very stern looking men who demanded to know our mission with the obvious aim of frightening us away.

Somehow the founder who led the mission saw through this and was able to strike a chord with them. They immediately offered to usher us around and introduced us to the area. Our previous outreaches had been primarily to commercial sex workers on the streets and in brothels mainly the women, so you can imagine the surprise and trepidation when we were ushered into a dinghy gambling parlour full of hemp smoking men, pimps, hustlers and gamblers. We opted to stay outside to share the word with our new ‘friends’ who were quite surprisingly eager to hear the word and turned out to be sufficiently exposed, knowledgeable with some of them being college educated. It was quite obvious these men had made wrong choices in life and could not see a way out of their seemingly intractable quagmire.

Another striking feature was the angst and regret at the poor choices they had made and the inability to get out from the pattern of failure. Probably adding to this was the approaching New Year and as is usual with everyone is a time for sober reflection and self appraisal.

A deep yearning for change in their circumstances was also clearly evident on the one hand and a resignation to a lifetime of failure on the other. Save for a handful of hardened ones, pleas for prayers were made and we ended up praying with them right in front of the gambling parlour at the end of which grown men were reduced to tears. Another shocker!!!

So these men are human after all!!It dawned on us that these were other people’s sons, brothers, fathers, husbands, cousin and friends trapped by the consequences of their poor choices and a society that cares little for rehabilitation and second chances. It became obvious that all that some of them need is a second chance at life with Jesus in the boat of their lives.

By and large we left them with a firm resolve to return to our new friends and were humbled and grateful for the saving grace of God which has preserved us from making the same mistakes these ones did and where we have God has clearly called us back and made a way of escape for us.

Thank GOD!!!
